Filter Cake Volume Reduction with a Hollow Blade Dryer

The Challenge
An industrial facility needed to reduce the volume and weight of filter cake generated by its wastewater treatment process to lower disposal costs and transport frequency. The material had a variable moisture content and needed continuous processing to keep pace with the treatment line.
The Solution
A KJG hollow blade dryer was configured for continuous operation, using its self-cleaning wedge-shaped heat transfer blades to keep the heat transfer surface clear despite the sticky nature of the filter cake. Indirect heating through the hollow shaft and blades avoided the large volume of exhaust air typical of direct hot-air drying, simplifying downstream air handling.

- Reviewed the customer's filter cake throughput rate and target final moisture content
- Sized a KJG hollow blade dryer for continuous feed and discharge
- Selected a heating medium compatible with the facility's existing utilities
- Coordinated installation and startup with the customer's treatment line schedule
